ST MARTINS RACING TEAM NEWS.
St Martins proprietor Ralph Avis has been successfully campaigning a
Shelby Mustang GT350 for the past eleven or so seasons. Since 1997 he has been competing in
the Aston Martin Owners Club Anglo-American Challenge, a series of about ten rounds on the club
circuits of Britain.
Championship Information
The championship is open to pre 1970 sports cars made in Britain or the US. The cars must be two-door models and retain the original body shape and engine. There are three classes:
Class A: Up to 2000cc
Class B: 2001cc to 3000cc
Class C: Over 3000cc
Ralph won the championship outright in 1997 and was runner up to Harvey Cooke in his very quick E Type in 1998. Details of the current season will be carried on these pages in the coming months, including information about forthcoming races so that you can go and cheer Ralph on.
2001 Season
This first picture shows Ralph on the grid at Donington Park last year. Behind him is the extremely quick Camaro of Roddie Feilden and to his right, the E Type of Mike Adams. The race was incredibly close with Ralph in the lead for most of it. That is until someone decided to nudge his way past on the penultimate lap, leaving a small scratch on Ralph's door!
"Follow that Car!" Ralph leads the pack into Redgate corner at Donington with Mike Adams hot on his heels.
Below are details of Ralph's fixtures for the coming season (2002). Prices for entry to the circuit vary, but usually start from around £10. There are also many other races at the meetings such as:
Intermarque - A series of races for highly modified cars such as Ferrari F40's and Porsche 911's.
Aston Challenge - Open to all types of Aston, from the 50's to the present day.
Formula Junior - Racing in 500cc single seaters, small but very noisy!
